Determining your product requirement:

  • Measure the surface area you wish to treat.
  • Determine which products are needed for the surface you wish to paint and the finish you wish to achieve.
  • Check the Theoretical Spread Rates (TSR) on each of the specified products and see how many coats of each are recommended, then calculate what quantities of each product you will require, remembering to make adjustments for the porosity for each TSRs are based on products applied to smooth, sealed surfaces. (E.g. a soft wood will absorb more paint than hard wood, so allow for a lower spread rate on porous surfaces).
  • Check out the specifications on all the top coat choices (referring to the relevant data sheets) and decide which is right for you.

NEW WOOD

Surface Preparation

  1. Sand new wood to a clean, smooth finish.
  2. Fill imperfections or holes with suitable wood filler and sand
  3. Remove sanding dust.

Application Method

  1. Apply a liberal coat of WoodFirst to all sides of the wood. (For the best results this should be done before installation of the wood so all areas can be covered). Allow 8 hours to dry between coats. One coat of WoodFirst is sufficient for hard woods. Soft woods require at least two coats of WoodFirst can be left on its own as an oil/stain but must then be maintained with a new coat every 6 months to 1 year.
  2. Apply two coats WoodCoat (Oil/Sealer – Linoleic Rich Long Oil Alkyd or Gloss Alkyd Varnish) or WoodLuv to areas of wood which cannot be reached (bottom and sides) before Allow 6 hours to dry between coats.
  3. Install wood, then apply 3 coats WoodCoat or WoodLuv to all exposed wood (tops), which will seal all screw or nail fitment points. Allow 6 hours to dry.

NOTE: For wood to last outside, it is important to feed and seal all areas of wood including fixing points.

PREVIOUSLY PAINTED WOOD

Surface Preparation

  1. Sand old paint to a clean, smooth finish
  2. Fill imperfections or holes with suitable wood filler and sand down the wood filler.
  3. Remove sanding dust.

Application Method

  1. Apply 1 coat of Paintcor’s UniSub, allow 2 hours to dry.
  2. Apply 2 topcoats of Paintcor’s Elegance
  3. Should you wish to achieve a finish with good abrasion resistance like on floors, then it is recommended to use Paintcor’s EnduraCoat or HiGlo and LoGlo

Note: Enamels do not last well under harsh UV conditions, it is their nature to chalk and fade after 2 to 3 years, for best long-lasting results on Exterior applications, finish with Paintcor’s EnviroCoat.
