SURFACE PREPARATION AND APPLICATION
PREVIOUSLY PAINTED MILD STEEL
- Check adhesion of existing paint (Cross hatch adhesion test). Using a Stanley knife, cut through the paint surface to the substrate vertically and horizontally approximately 3mm apart, creating little squares. If the edges of the squares curl up, and the square can easily be removed, this means the adhesion of the old paint system is failing.
- Remove all loose or peeling paint.
- Wash existing paint to remove all dirt and grime. Rinse well and allow to dry.
- Sand existing paint to a clean matt finish. Remove sanding dust.
- Sand exposed metal (if any) to bright steel. Remove sanding dust.
- Apply 2 coats of Paintcor’s EnviroPrime or 1 coat of Paintcor’s AllPrime Plus to exposed metal only. Allow to dry between coats.
- Apply 1 coat Paintcor’s UniSub Universal Undercoat. Allow to dry.
- Apply 1 or 2 coats of Paintcor’s LoGlo Enamel with brush, roller or spray. In case of spray, 10%
- turpentine may be added. Allow to dry 6 hours between coats.
MILD STEEL – NEW
- Degrease steel. Shot blast the steel according to SA2.5 specification to remove mill scale and other contaminants, or sand back to bright finish by hand.
- Before the steel rusts, apply 2 coats of Paintcor’s EnviroPrime or 1 coat of Paintcor’s AllPrime Plus. Allow to dry between coats.
- Apply 1 coat of Paintcor’s UniSub Universal Undercoat. Allow to dry.
- Apply 1 or 2 coats of Paintcor’s LoGlo Enamel. In case of spray, 10% turpentine may be added. Allow 6 hours to dry between coats.
DOORS AND FRAMES – NEW
- Sand door and frame to a clean smooth finish. Remove sanding dust.
- Spot prime exposed metal (if any) with 1 coat of Paintcor’s AllPrime Plus or EnviroPrime. Allow to dry.
- Apply 1 coat Paintcor’s UniSub Universal Undercoat to all areas to be painted. Allow to dry.
- Apply 2 coats of Paintcor’s LoGlo Enamel with brush, roller or spray. In case of spray, 10% turpentine may be added. Allow 6 hours to dry between coats.

FOR OUSTANDING RESULTS ON NEW FRAMES AND DOORS
- After sanding and priming the frame and door, apply at least 2 coats of Paintcor?s UniSub universal undercoat, sanding between and after the coats with a 320-grit water paper. Remove sanding dust.
- Apply the first coat of LoGlo Enamel undiluted. Allow to dry.
- Sand again with 320 grit water paper.
- Apply a 2nd coat of LoGlo enamel diluted with 10% mineral turpentine. Allow to dry and sand again.
- Apply a 3rd and final coat diluted 15% with mineral turpentine. Allow to dry. This will leave you with an eggshell door that appears to have been sprayed. (Well worth the trouble!)
NEW PLASTER OR GYPSUM PLASTER
- Prime new plaster with plaster primer. See Plaster Prime D.A. Sheet.
- Apply 2 coats LoGlo Enamel, with or without UniSub Universal Undercoat. (UniSub Universal Undercoat would only be used after PlasterPrime to achieve a smoother finish).
