PAINTING INTERIOR WALLS

Determining your product requirement:
- Measure the surface area you wish to
- Determine which products are needed for the surface you wish to paint and the finish you wish to achieve.
- Check the Theoretical Spread Rates (TSR) on each of the specified products and see how many coats of each are recommended, then calculate what quantities of each product you will require, remembering to make adjustments for the porosity for each surface. TSRs are based on products applied to smooth, sealed (E.g. an unsealed scratch plaster surface will absorb more paint than a sealed smooth one, so allow for a lower spread rate on porous surfaces).
- Check out the specifications on all the top coat choices (referring to the relevant data sheets) and decide which is right for

INTERIOR WALLS (UNPAINTED) NEW GYPSYM PLASTER (RHINOLITE)
Method #1: Using PlasterPrime (for good quality gypsum plaster only) Surface Preparation:
New Gypsum Plaster (Rhinolite)
- Ensure gypsum plaster is dry and of good quality, i.e. the surface is hard and free of chalk. Note: If the chalky powder remains after wiping, Paintcor’s RhinoSeal must be applied in place of PlasterPrime to ensure the complete binding of the chalking gypsum
- Wipe good quality gypsum plaster down to remove all dirt and
Application Method:
- Apply 1 coat of PlasterPrime premium (water base) or Plaster prime Trade (solvent base) to all gypsum surfaces to be Allow to dry for 2 hours @ 25 degrees C.
- Apply 2 coats of the top coat of your Allow to dry between coats.
Method #2: Using RhinoSeal (for chalking gypsum plaster) Surface Preparation:
- Wipe walls down to remove all dirt and dust.
Application Method:
- Apply 1 coat RhinoSeal directly to gypsum plaster (Rhinolite) wall with a brush, roller or airless spray. Allow 2 hours to
- Check if substrate is properly bound (i.e. no chalking gypsum plaster). If there is still chalk on the surface then apply a second coat of RhinoSeal. Allow 2 hours to dry between and after
- Overcoating with 1 coat of AcrylUnder (for acrylic top coats, allow 30 minutes to dry) or 1 coat of UniSub Universal undercoat (for Enamel top coats allow 12 hours to dry).
- Finally apply Acrylic top coats over AcrylUnder or Enamel top coats over UniSub Universal Undercoat. Allow to dry between coats.

NEW CEMENT PLASTER
Surface Preparation
- Ensure plaster is dry and of good quality. Poor quality plaster (plaster that continues to release loose
particles when brushed) must be sealed using Paintcor’s AcrySeal and not PlasterPrime.
Application Method
- Apply 1 coat of Paintcor’s PlasterPrime Premium or Trade to new plaster to be painted. Allow to dry for 6 hours @ 25°C
- Finally apply 2 coats of the top coat of your choice, allow to dry between
Where PlasterPrime Should Be Used:
PlasterPrime should be used on all new good quality plaster, especially below D.P.C and after the application of
Paintcor’s KlinkaSeal to stop rising damp.
Please Note: AcrySeal must be used in place of Plaster Prime on new under bound plaster to completely bind and seal the new plaster before painting. Do not apply Plaster primer to under bound (friable) plaster. Any new plaster can also be sealed with AcrySeal before painting. AcrySeal will give a firm, alkali resistant base for subsequent coats to adhere to.
