Determining your product requirement:

  • Measure the surface area you wish to
  • Determine which products are needed for the surface you wish to paint and the finish you wish to achieve.
  • Check the Theoretical Spread Rates (TSR) on each of the specified products and see how many coats of each are recommended, then calculate what quantities of each product you will require, remembering to make adjustments for the porosity for each surface. TSRs are based on products applied to smooth, sealed (E.g. an unsealed scratch plaster surface will absorb more paint than a sealed smooth one, so allow for a lower spread rate on porous surfaces).
  • Check out the specifications on all the top coat choices (referring to the relevant data sheets) and decide which is right for

METHOD 1: (Recommended for flat deck roof)

AQUASEAL SATURATOR AND MEMBRANE (BANDAGES) IF CURED CONCRETE

Surface Preparation

  1. Ensure surface is free of loose friable
  2. Apply 1 coat AcrySeal, diluted 1:1 with water to the entire deck and parapet Allow to dry.

IF UNCURED CONCRETE (GREEN STAGE)

Surface Preparation

  1. Note: If AcrySeal is used as a sealer on a damp or green (wet) new flat deck, before waterproofing, blistering of the system may occur after drying.
  2. Ensure surface is free of loose friable
  3. Apply 2 coats CemenTek. Allow 2 hours of drying time between coats @ 25°C. Sufficient coats of CemenTek must be applied to completely seal the surface therefore, apply more than 2 coats if the surface looks dry or is still porous in areas after 2 coats.

Note: If the surface is not completely sealed with CemenTek, then the applied waterproofing system may be prone to blistering.

Application Method

  1. Adhere membrane to flat deck and parapets using AquaSeal Saturator. Apply 1 liberal coat of AquaSeal Saturator to the areas to which the membrane is to be applied. Using the top of the brush and a dabbing action, bed the membrane into the wet AquaSeal Saturator. Apply progressive sections of 30-40cm

at a time checking that the AquaSeal Saturator is still wet. This will ensure complete adhesion of the membrane to the surface. Allow to dry

  1. Once the membrane is stuck to the surface and is dry, apply at least 2 more coats of AquaSeal Saturator

to the membrane, allowing drying time between coats.

  1. Finally apply 2 top coats of RuvAcryl or Elegance. Allow to dry between

Guarantee:

This system carries a 5-year guarantee if inspected annually and a new top coat of AquaSeal applied after 3 to 4 years.

This guarantee can be extended to 10 years if the finished system is top coated with Ruvacrly or Elegance, but must be inspected annually and overcoated after 7 years if necessary.

Drying Time @ 25°C – 1 hour

METHOD 2: (Best for parapet walls and windowsills) USING AQUAMATT:

IF CURED CONCRETE

Surface Preparation

  1. Ensure surface is free of loose friable
  2. Apply 1 coat AcrySeal, diluted 1:1 with water to the entire deck and parapet Allow to dry.

IF UNCURED CONCRETE (GREEN STAGE)

Surface Preparation

  1. Ensure surface is free of loose friable material
  2. Apply 2 coats CemenTek. Allow 2 hours of drying time between coats @ 25°C. Sufficient coats of CemenTek

must be applied to completely seal the surface, therefore apply more than 2 coats if the surface looks dry or is still porous after 2 coats.

Note: If the surface is not completely sealed with CemenTek, then the applied waterproofing system may blister.

Application Method

  1. Adhere membrane to all 90-degree joints using AquaSeal Saturator. Apply 1 liberal coat of AquaSeal Saturator to the areas to which the membrane is to be applied. Using the top of the brush and a dabbing action, bed the membrane into the AquaSeal Saturator. Apply progressive sections of 30-40cm at a time checking that the AquaSeal Saturator is still wet when applying the membrane. This will ensure complete adhesion of the membrane. Apply the membrane to all 90-degree joints between the flat deck and parapet walls and any other joints where movement may occur. Allow to dry.
  2. Using a sponge ripple roller or brush, apply the first coat of AquaMatt, covering the deck, membraned joints and the tops of parapet walls. AquaMatt must be applied in multiple layers, so apply each coat thinly to facilitate quicker drying time between
  3. Apply a second coat of N.B. Drying times are at specified film thickness. Should AquaMatt

be applied to thick due to roughness, undulations and indents in surface, it is up to the applicator to check for thicker areas and to ensure they are properly dry between coats. If AquaMatt is recoated before properly drying, blisters may form in the product in those areas.

  1. Apply a 3rd coat and as many subsequent coats as necessary. The rule of thumb is 1 litre per square metre. If your deck is 10m² you will need 10 litres of AquaMatt, which you must keep applying in coats until all the product is finished. This is the only way to ensure you have effective uniform thickness of appropriately 0.5mm.
  2. Once ensuring that the AquaMatt is completely dry, finally apply 2 coats of either AquaSeal Top Coat, Elegance or RuvAcryl. White is recommended as it resists heat and minimises expansion and contraction. (Elegance is however available in the colour of your choice. You will need 1 litre per 8m² to achieve effective coverage)

GUARANTEES AND MAINTENANCE PLAN

Any product will be degraded by the harsh UV rays experienced in South Africa.

To ensure long term protection of AquaMatt, top coats of either Elegance or AquaSeal must be applied.

AquaSeal: (Guarantee Period: 5 years)

  1. Inspect annually to check for signs of degradation or cracking.
  2. Recoat with AquaSeal every 3-4

Elegance / RuvAcryl: (Guarantee Period: 10 years)

  1. Inspect annually to check for signs of degradation or
  2. Recoat with Elegance every 7
