DESCRIPTION
Grantex has been formulated using specialised raw materials to achieve a tough coating with a rough granular texture finish. Grantex has been designed to cover plaster imperfections, with excellent adhesion, water and alkali resistance. Grantex can be used as a first coat on good quality plaster. Grantex can be tinted in a variety of colours, however it is recommended that Grantex be over coated with a final coat.
FEATURES

AREAS OF USE
- Feature Walls
- Walls with bad imperfections
- Obtain a rough granular texture for aesthetic reasons
- Interior and Exterior Walls
SURFACE PREPARATION AND APPLICATION
New Plaster
- Remove all loose friable material.
- Grantex can be applied directly to good quality plaster.
- If the plaster is very friable then apply 1 coat of Paintcor’s AcrySeal Acrylic Sealer diluted 1:1 with water to all new plaster. Allow to dry for 1 hour @ 25 degrees C.
- Apply 1 or 2 coats of Paintcor’s Grantex, using:
- Sponge Stipple Roller for increase texture.
- A sheepskin roller to give a granular textured finish.
- A Block Brush to give a brushed sand look. Allow 1 hour @ 25 degrees C. to dry between coats
Previously Painted Plaster
- Check adhesion of existing paint. (Cross hatch method) Using a Stanley knife, cut through the paint surface to the substrate vertically and horizontally approximately 3mm apart, creating little squares. If the edges of the squares curl up, and the square can easily be removed, this means the adhesion of the old paint system is failing.
If adhesion is poor:
- Remove all old paint back to existing plaster.
- If surface is powdery (chalking), wash to remove all powder. Allow to dry.
- Apply 1 coat of Paintcor’s AcrySeal Acrylic Sealer diluted 1:1 with water to all exposed plaster and washed chalking surfaces. Allow to dry.
- Apply 1 or 2 coats of Paintcor’s Grantex, using:
- Sponge Stipple Texture Roller for increased texture.
- A sheepskin roller to give a granular textured finish.
- A Block Brush to give a brushed sand look.
- Allow 1 hour @ 25 degrees C. to dry between coats
If adhesion is good:
- Wash walls to remove all dirt and dust. Allow to dry.
- Apply Grantex as per no 4 above
Applying Grantex with any roller requires professional painters with knowledge of applying textured finishes. Incorrectly applied Grantex will give a poor, uneven finish. Avoid applying Grantex in Direct sunlight or when ambient temperatures are 30°C or above. Please contact our Technical Department for training on application of textured coatings.
TIPS ON TEXTURES
- Work Quickly.
- Keep a wet edge at all times.
